Birmingham born, Roger trained at the Birmingham School of Music. He then went on to Aston Manor School in Birmingham teaching music for 16 years, eventually becoming Head of Lower School there. In the early 1970s he began writing songs for his school choir about Easter, which evolved into a Cantata entitled ´Jerusalem Joy'.
He first began composing in order to involve the widest cross section of people as possible in music-making. He also wanted to write Bible stories and Christian truths in a way that was both accessible - and fun! In 1984, Roger gave up teaching to become involved in full-time Christian music.
Since then he has written in excess of 30 musicals and collections.
