Song Description

This pastiche of the 1950s ballad follows closely to the spirit of that era. The mixture of childhood sweethearts and romance collide with the real issues of emotional turmoil and the feelings of being lied to and let down, offering a perfect reflection of the post WW2 music and social scene.

Musical Description

An insistent compound triple time following the ubiquitous tonic, sub mediant minor, sub dominant, dominant structure prevalent in almost all 1950s pop ballads, gives musical credence to this song that could well have been penned at that time. There is a variation on the themes of circle of 5ths, strong use of a dominant 5th (flattened 7th) and the occasional 4th minor to add drama to the angst. Tremolo guitar and big vocal backing are predominant, the concluding bolero phrasing rounding off a song that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
