Nether Minching is a ficticious seaside resort. The troops all think they’re going on a holiday. They’re really off to war. A fairly diluted version, then, of how ‘misinformation’ used to work in the army of the 2nd world war and beyond. It’s a reflection, too, of a more theatrical version of army life as depicted in ‘Dad’s Army’.
A march. A strong 1,2,1,2, feel throughout. Melody is a pastiche on numerous styles embracing Souza and more modern ‘pop’ pieces such as ‘76 Trombones’. The counter melody is written very much in the tradition of a scout Gang Show.
